We have our servers with mod_rewrite pre-configured (enabled). You can see this by running
# Ubuntu / Debian
If you are going to use rewrite rules in .htaccess, make sure the htaccess support is enabled for the domain. This can be done in the control panel, under the web hosting configuration section. A quick way to see if the .htaccess is being read is by entering an invalid directive in the .htaccess file and loading a page on the site, Apache should return a 500 error. If you look in the error log, you should see the issue.
