How do I migrate my website contents, including email accounts to ServerGrove in Shared Hosting?

The migration of your website content and of the email accounts (and contents) needs to be done before you transfer the domain or update the DNS records to point your domain to our server. These are the basic steps that are required:

1) Lower your TTL (Optional):
TTL tells the server how long to keep information about your domain. Lower the TTL of the DNS records so when you make the changes the propagation takes minutes instead of hours or days. You can usually lower the TTL for your domain from your current host Control Panel, but we recommend contacting them for more information on how to do it.

2) Upload the contents of your website to the new server at ServerGrove:
Download all of your website files (including photos, videos, configuration files, etc) from your old server, and upload them to your new server at ServerGrove using using FTP / SFTP / SSH.

NOTE: If your domain hasn’t been added to the Control Panel, you will need to add it prior to following the next steps below.

To add a domain to your Control Panel:
– Go to our website:
– Login to the Control Panel, click on Domains / Create Domain:


Once you have your domain you will have to upload the contents of your website to it. The easiest way to do this is with Filezilla, a free FTP Client. To use Filezilla, go to their website and download and install “Filezilla Client”:


Once it’s installed, you can connect to your new ServerGrove server using the information your received on your welcome email from us. Enter the Hostname, Username and Password and click on the “Quickconnect” button:


Upload your website, this means, all of the website files you have downloaded from your old server. If your website needs to be installed on a subdomain, you will need to create it first. To do so, you can follow these steps.

3) Database:
If your website uses a database, you will have to create it in the control panel and upload the contents. To create a database in Plesk, follow these steps.

4) Test your website:
Test your website using the preview URL. You can find the preview URL on your welcome email from ServerGrove.

5) Create all email accounts in Plesk:
If you wish to transfer email accounts from your old host to ServerGrove, you will have to first create all email accounts in ServerGrove’s Control Panel (Plesk). To do so, follow these steps: – Go to our website: – Click on Login at the top of the page, enter your Username and Password for the Control Panel (this information is on your welcome email from ServerGrove) and click on the Login button. – Click on Create Mail Account and fill out the required information. Repeat this step to create all of the email accounts you need.

6) Transfer the contents of the email accounts:
Use an email client like Thunderbird that allows you to set up email accounts on both servers (old and new). Copy messages and folders from one to another. This has to be done manually for each email account.

7) Update the DNS records:
Update the DNS records to point the domain to our servers.

8) Transfer your domain to ServerGrove following these instructions

You can direct your website to our server before moving the email accounts, or viceversa. Basically, these two things can be done independently of the other.
